Sally's Assembly

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all enjoyed the midterm.
Sally's class assembly will take place this Friday in the hall at 8:30am. Our theme is mental health- what it is and how we can look after it.
Please help your child with learning their lines and practising the songs below. Pupils who were absent today have been allocated lines.

I hope to see you all there.

Thanks in advance,
Sally

Read All About It, Part III
IR: MOF:
You've got the words to change a nation
But you're biting your tongue
You've spent a life time stuck in silence
Afraid you'll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?
So come on, come on
Come on, come on

GV:
You've got a heart as loud as lightning
So why let your voice be tamed?
Maybe we're a little different
There's no need to be ashamed

AF:
You've got the light to fight the shadows
So stop hiding it away
Come on, come on

Group 1:
I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream 'til the words dry out

Group 2:
So put it in all of the papers,
I'm not afraid
They can read all about it

Group 1: Group 2:
Read all about it, oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

EF: At night we're waking up the neighbours
While we sing away the blues
Making sure that we're remembered, yeah
'Cause we all matter too
If the truth has been forbidden
Then we're breaking all the rules
So come on, come on
Come on, come on,

WW:
Let's get the TV and the radio
To play our tune again
WW: AR:

It's 'bout time we got some airplay of our version of events
There's no need to be afraid
WW: AR: GV:

I will sing with you my friend

All:
Come on, come on
I wanna sing, I wanna shout
I wanna scream 'til the words dry out
So put it in all of the papers,
I'm not afraid
They can read all about it
Read all about it, oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh

Bruno Mars-Count on Me

If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea,
I'll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see,
I'll be the light to guide you
Find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
You can count on me like one two three
I'll be there
And I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two
You'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah
Whoa, whoa
Oh, oh
Yeah, yeah
If you tossin' and you're turnin' and you just can't fall asleep
I'll sing a song
Beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Everyday I will
Remind you
Ooh
Find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
You can count on me like one two three
I'll be there
And I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two
You'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah

High Hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing
Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Didn't know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high, high hopes
Mama said
Fulfill the prophecy
Be something greater
Go make a legacy
Manifest destiny
Back in the days
We wanted everything, wanted everything
Mama said
Burn your biographies
Rewrite your history
Light up your wildest dreams
Museum victories, everyday
We wanted everything, wanted everything
Mama said don't give up, it's a little complicated
All tied up, no more love and I'd hate to see you waiting
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing
Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Didn't know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high, high hopes
Mama said
It's uphill for oddities
The stranger crusaders
Ain't ever wannabes
The weird and the novelties
Don't ever change
We wanted everything, wanted everything
Stay up on that rise
Stay up on that rise and never come down
Stay up on that rise
Stay up on that rise and never come down
Mama said don't give up, it's a little complicated
All tied up, no more love and I'd hate to see you waiting
They say it's all been done but they haven't seen the best of me
So I got one more run and it's gonna be a sight to see
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing
Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Didn't know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing
Didn't have a dime but I always had a vision
Always had high, high hopes
Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Didn't know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high, high hopes

Mental Health Drama

WDN Good morning and welcome to our 5th class assembly.
DT Mental health week ran from the 6th of October to the 13th, with World Mental Health Day falling on the 10th of October.
AW Our class felt this topic is widely spoken about amongst adults.
OOD But we believe children too should be educated about mental health.
CPW The terms wellbeing, mental health, growth mind-set and self-love dominate the headlines, newspapers, social media feeds and billboards.
LS: A topic that was once rarely discussed is now at the fore for our generation. We can read all about it everywhere.
Song: ‘Read All About It.’
Play:
OP Student: “Hi Holler do you want to play hop scotch today?”
JP Student: “No not today.”
CW Student: “Ah come on it’ll be so much fun.”
JP Student: “No I’m no good at it.”
PW: “I wasn’t good at first either
JP: “No I’ll sit over here”.
(CL rings bell)
CL Teacher: “Ok class, today we’re going to learn about mental health. Who can tell me what mental health is?”
MOF Student: “Mental health is the condition we keep our mind in. It affects the thoughts we have and our attitude.”
CL Teacher: “Can you expand?”
IR Student: “Everyone has a mental health and it’s important we look after it.”
CL Teacher: “Why is it so important?”
KP Student: “Well your mental health affects your physical health- people with a positive mental health may be motivated to have hobbies, travel, eat well and exercise.”
CR Student: “It has an impact in your emotional health- if you keep positive thoughts then you’ll have higher self-esteem, positive relationships and may try more things.”
MK Student: “But teacher what about people with negative thoughts?”
CL Teacher: “Well class we practice growth mind-set. This is where we re-frame our thoughts and believe in the power of yet and the power of maybe.”
MD Freeze frame-The power of yet
WW Freeze frame- The power of maybe
CL Teacher: “We all have a mental health and we must all support each other in looking after it.”
Song: ‘Count on Me’
(Out on yard)
OP Student: “Hey Holly do you want to play wink murder?”
JP Student: “No, I don’t know how.”
DS Student: “You mean you don’t know how YET.”
(Kids teach her and they play.)

AR Speaker: “Like the teacher said the power of yet and the power of maybe is important to change and re-frame our thoughts to become more positive.”
AK Speaker: “Some people are happy to be on their own, for others isolation or becoming withdrawn is a sign that they may have a lot going on at the minute. So we must make an effort to be understanding of what people need.”
WS Speaker: “Maybe they need space or maybe they need help developing their positive mental health.”
MD Speaker: “Everyone has bad days, positive mental health doesn’t mean being happy or excited all the time, about everything.”
MLR Speaker: “Positive mental health means being resilient and persistent.”
MG Speakers: “It’s being kind to ourselves which in turn allows us to be kind to others.”
WW Speaker: “It involves being aware of your emotions and actions and taking the steps to look after our minds as best we can.”
TD: These steps could be:
Talking to someone
Writing down an affirmation
Journaling
NZ: Meditation
Mindfulness colouring
Watching your favourite show
HM: Listening to music
Carrying out your hobby
Eating healthily
Movement
Breathing
GV and AF Speaker: Thank you for coming to our class assembly on mental health.
